Art and jewellery – creating new treasures from old

Each day the Thames is a new archeological site as the layers of silt and mud expose new treasures. Fine art trained Ruth Claydon creates truly beautiful unique pieces from her mudlarking finds, archeological artefacts and vintage jewellery under the name Moth & Magpie. Ruth’s passion is mudlarking and what might look like something rusty, old or broken will be transformed and incorporated into jewellery that is most definitely of its time now and will be treasured for years to come.

You can read about Ruth’s art and work in this article in the Yorkshire Post

From the first moment we saw Ruth’s work we knew we wanted to collaborate. Free Spirit is a collection that came out of this collaboration, which is exclusive to Conscious Apparel. The collection can be purchased through our online shop and we warmly welcome you to come and view the collection in person at the Kentmere House Gallery in York and meet us in person. The Kentmere House collection of contemporary art is curated by Ann Petherick and it is a must see everchanging permanent exhibition in historic York. The gallery is open by appointment, every Thursday evening from 6-9pm, and on the first weekend of each month. We show the Free Spirit collection at the gallery only on the first Thursday evening of each month.  During December, because Ruth’s jewellery makes such wonderful gifts, we will open on December 2nd and 16th. Do come and join us and enjoy art and jewellery – and a glass of mulled wine.
