World Bamboo Day! September 18th

Every year on September 18th since 2009 – the world celebrates bamboo.

Each year a theme is chosen, and for 2021 the theme is to plant bamboo.

Bamboo is a wonderful eco crop that rarely needs replanting. It can be used to make furniture, in food and as biofuel – as well as for clothes

When we saw Nila Rubia’s wonderful Bamboo ‘silk’ we thought this had to be a winner for dressing gowns that were silky soft but also more durable than silk, and no silk worms dying!! The hand block prints are absolutely gorgeous.

We have a few other bamboo pieces too – the shibori panel jacket looks superb in bamboo, modelled by the lovely Kate

“The bamboo that bends is stronger than the oak that resists.” Japanese proverb
